Things You'll Need:
- Hoover carpet cleaner
- Hoover carpet-cleaning fluid
- Bleach
- Water
-
Step 1
Move furniture off the carpet in the area to be cleaned.
-
Step 2
Vacuum the carpet thoroughly.
-
Step 3
Pre-treat any heavily soiled areas with a carpet treatment approved in the instructional manual or on Hoover's website.
-
Step 4
Remove the water storage tank from the cleaner before it is plugged into an electrical outlet. Remove it by applying slight pressure downward and then forward to lift the tank out by its built-in handle.
-
Step 5
Unscrew the tank's plug, which also doubles as the measuring device for carpet-cleaning fluid.
-
Step 6
Clean the water storage tank with fresh running water, if necessary, before filling. Make sure that none of the tank's compartments are blocked in any way.
-
Step 7
Measure the right amount of carpet-cleaning fluid, making certain not to go above the fill line on the tank's plug/measuring tool. Pour the cleaning fluid into the tank’s opening. For heavily soiled areas on light carpeting such as white, beige or light gray, measure an equal amount of bleach and also pour that into the tank.
-
Step 8
Fill the water storage tank with warm-to-hot water. Be careful not to overfill. Screw the cap plug back into the water storage tank.
-
Step 9
Snap the storage tank properly into the cleaner.
-
Step 1
Set brush speed selector, if applicable on the cleaning model being used. Leave the selector in the off position whenever no brush action is required. Select low for lightly soiled carpets or high for most carpets, especially those that are unusually soiled.
-
Step 2
Plug the carpet cleaner into a standard electrical outlet. Turn the cleaner on and release the handle from its upright position.
-
Step 3
Start cleaning at the side of the room furthest from the sink. This will help you avoid stepping onto wet carpet. Divide large rooms into sections if that will make covering the surface easier overall.
-
Step 4
Push the trigger on the handle as you move the cleaner forward. Continue to squeeze the trigger as you pull the cleaner back to complete the first pass.
-
Step 5
Make a second pass forward without pushing on the trigger.
-
Step 6
Move to the next strip of carpeting, overlapping it slightly with the pass before it. Continue repeating Steps 4 and 5 of this section until the entire carpet has been cleaned.
-
Step 7
Refill the water storage tank as often as needed.
-
Step 8
Empty the dirty water tank each time you refill the water storage tank. To do this, release the handle and push it backward down onto the floor to unveil the dirty water tank. Lift it out by unlatching the tank from the cleaner base and pulling it from the machine by its handle. Unscrew the plug and empty out the soiled water; rinsing the tank clean before putting it back into its slot and latching it back into place.
-
Step 9
Lift up the handle of the cleaner and move back into its original position.
