These cupcakes are easy to do and will dress up any Halloween party in a snap! They are also great for sending to school for a child's Halloween party or to sell at a bake sale for your favorite charity!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chocolate Cake mix
  • Homemade or store bought white frosting
  • Decorator icing or set aside extra frosting for coloring
  • food coloring colors in white, black, red, yellow, green, orange
  • Cupcake liners
  • Cupcake pan
  1. Step 1

Mix your chocolate cake batter as per the instructions on the box for making cupcakes.

  2. Step 2

Line your cupcake trays with the paper liners. Using Halloween designed liners for that added touch or use white, black, orange or red liner colors.

  3. Step 3

Simply bake your cupcakes until done, again use the box instructions for length in cooking. Cool completely on wire rack.

  4. Step 4

Mix your favorite frosting mix or use ready made white frosting. You can tint the white frosting by using a bit of black coloring if you want a darker look or leave them bright white for use with a black light.

  5. Step 5

Add your frosting to a piping bag and use a flat wide tip to pipe the frosting back and forth directly onto the top of the cupcakes in a "bandage" fashion. It is important to leave a section for the eyes of your mummy in the middle or near the top half of the cupcakes.

  6. Step 6
Set your cupcakes under the glow of a blacklight for some spooky fun!

For the eyes simply use a decorator icing in black by putting on a dot, use a smaller white dot in the center and then either a red, orange, green or any color for the highlight of the eyes.

  7. Step 7

Set your cupcakes directly under a black light for a spooky mummified glow and to highlight an already deliciously fun treat!

Tips & Warnings
  • I don't frost the top of my cupcakes before adding the white frosting, I find that the "crackled" top of the chocolate cupcakes gives my mummies a decidedly "old mummy" look.
  • You can use Halloween confetti for eyes, nose mouth etc, just stick on top of the cake with a bit of frosting or decorator gel.
  • I always set aside a few small bowls of white icing to color as I need to change the colors of the eyes or to give my mummy cupcakes a brownish or grayish look instead of white.
  • This is a really easy project for kids to do and they enjoy the frosting process.
  • You can also add a sprinkle of white sugar to the top of the cupcakes after decorating with the frosting to give them a bit of added sparkle, especially under the black light.
