Instructions

    • 1

Measure teapot's girth, dividing the circumference by two and adding 2 inches to the measurement. This is the fabric width. Measure over the teapot, beginning at the table, go over the lid then down to the other side to meet the table. Divide this by two and add 3 inches. This is the fabric height. Write these dimensions down.

    • 2

Make a paper pattern or draw directly on the fabric surface. The pattern should be a rounded circle with a flat bottom. Do not cut yet.

    • 3

Layer the fabric with batting and embellish the fabric now with embroidery, if you desire. Pin the paper pattern or if you have drawn directly on the fabric, cut through all layers.

    • 4

Cut a 3-inch square of fabric, fold it into a triangle, then fold again down to form a square. Press and stitch ends into place to create a "handle" for the tea cozy. Attach it by pinning into place at the top center of the tea cozy, pointing towards the straight edge.

    • 5

Assemble with right sides together, handle pinned into place, batting layer on the outside and stitch together. Leave a 4-inch opening for turning. Turn, press and close opening by sewing together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Line the tea cozy for a finished design if desired.

  • Insert piping before sewing together for a tailored look.

  • Select a pre-quilted fabric for making the tea cozy.

  • Crochet a tea cozy.
