Treat and Prevent Dry Cracked Heels
Treat and Prevent Dry Cracked Heels

Sometimes dry, cracked heels are not just dry and cracked. If you've tried to get rid of the ugly flaking skin on your heels but nothing is working, you may actually have a fungal infection that you need to treat as athletes feet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clotrimazole cream
  • nail file
  • Vaseline petroleum jelly
  • thick socks
  1. Step 1

Treatment: Start out by using a nail file to scrub the dry, dead skin off your heels. This method works just as well as the Ped Egg.

  2. Step 2

Then apply some Clotrimazole cream which is an antifungal cream. You can get this at any drugstore or Wal-mart, Target etc.. Follow the directions on the package. It usually takes about four weeks to treat. Make sure when applying this at night that you use a pair of fairly thick socks to help lock the medication in. You should start noticing a difference in this step. Repeat this process for the full term of treatment.

  3. Step 3

Prevention: Once the Clotrimazole treatment is complete, at night before bedtime, apply a generous amount of Vaseline petroleum jelly to your heels. Rub in completely. Wear your socks to bed. Repeat this step every night.

  4. Step 4

Try to avoid wearing open heeled shoes such as sandals and flip-flops. These types of shoes contribute to having dry heels.

  5. Step 5

Try to avoid taking baths that are too hot. Hot water dehydrates the skin even more leaving it susceptible to infection.

  6. Step 6

Avoid going in to public showers without flip flops or some type of wet shoes. Fungal infections are easily spread in a moist damp environment. Always protect your feet

on 9/13/2008 Or you could use tea tree oil. You may not have a fungal infection. If circulation is poor, this can cause dry, cracked skin.
