Things You'll Need:
- Book of Mormom
- mormon.org
- an LDS member
- a genuine interest in the faith without a bias
-
Step 1
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the official name of the church. It isn't the Mormon church. It isn't the Mormon cult. It isn't the Fundamental Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is a Christian-based faith, hence the name Jesus Christ in the title.
-
Step 2
Don't visit antimormon sites for the truth. You won't find it there. If you have a genuine desire to understand the latter-day saint church, read literature about the church. Get a copy of the Book of Mormon, the primary scripture in the LDS faith. It is used as a companion to the Bible. It doesn't REPLACE the bible, as some may believe.
-
Step 3
If you have a friend that is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, ask questions. Most members of the church are willing to explain anything that is confusing about the church. They will also appreciate your desire to understand an important part of their life.
-
Step 4
Talk to the Latter-Day Saint missionaries if you have other questions that you aren't sure where to search for the answers.
-
Step 5
The church's website is lds.org or mormon.org. Both explain the basic beliefs of the church. Lds.org proves more iin-depth information while mormon.org gives a basic overview of the beliefs.
-
Step 6
Know that above all else, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are human, like you. We don't sacrifice animals at our services. We don't have shrines to multiple gods. We aren't waiting for a space ship to pick us up. We aren't a cult. We believe in Jesus Christ and his teachings of charity, love, forgiveness, and faith.
