Crochet Tops

I learned to crochet by watching my mom. I don’t know a lot but I know enough to crochet the tops to hand towels. They make great gift for any event. Or they are
great hanging in your own kitchen.

Exodus 39:29 The sashes were made of fine linen cloth and embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hand Towels
  • Yarn to match your towel
  • Crochet hooks 1.5 mm & H
  • A couple of straight pins
  1. Step 1

Go to your nearest craft store for yarn and crochet hooks. The Dollar Stores have towels that work just fine for this project.

  2. Step 2

Fold your towel in ½ and pins the end together to keep it straight while crocheting your first row. I like to leave my towels whole verses cutting in ½ like some do. It makes it stronger and more versatile. One side gets stained turn it over.

  3. Step 3

Single crochet 1 row by poking a hole in the towel for each single crochet. Chain 3 stitches and turn for next row.

  4. Step 4

Change to larger hook. Double crochet all the way across hitting every single crochet. Chain 3 and turn for next row.

  5. Step 5

Skip 1 Double crochet, double crochet in next Double Crochet and all the way across the row. Chain 3 and turn for next row.

  6. Step 6

Your going to start reducing your stitches, Double crochet in first hole, skip a hole, Double crochet in next hole. Repeat all the way across row. Chain 3 and turn for next row.

  7. Step 7

Repeat step 6. This is should be your row 5.

  8. Step 8

Double crochet every stitch all the way across, chain 3 and turn for next row.

  9. Step 9

Double crochet in 3 holes, skip 4th hole and chain 3, insert in 5th hole and continue to Double crochet remaining holes. Chain 3 and turn for next row.

  10. Step 10

Double crochet 7 stitches in row 8. Chain 3 and turn for next row.

  11. Step 11

    Row 9-13
Double crochet every stitch all the way across, chain 3 and turn for next row.

  12. Step 12

You are starting to increase your row, 3 Double crochets in every stitch all the way across. Chain 3 and turn for next row.

  13. Step 13

    Repeat step 12

  14. Step 14

Double crochet in each stitch all the way across.

  15. Step 15

Single crochet in each stitch all the way to the end. Cut the yarn and do a slip stitch to tie off. Tuck your end in.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buying Dollar Store Towels are cheaper but not always quality. If you want this for someone special you might want to buy a better towel.

on 1/5/2009 if you crochet instead onto a length of webbing and then make buttonholes in the webbing you can sew on buttons onto the the towel and make it "removable" for washing or a new towel; they tend to wear out before the crochet does
