repair frosted or foggy plastic headlight lens

Foggy or frosted headlamp lens effects the way the light shines through it, this is a common problem with any vehicle with plastic headlamp lens. I will show you a quick fix that I used and it worked for me!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paint thinner or solvent
  • clear coat spray paint
  1. Step 1

Inspect the lens and see if they can be repaired, worst case you'll have to toss them and buy new parts. My head lights are off of a 96 Dodge Stratus and were fogged pretty bad. I used a blue shop paper towel and folded it over twice and dampened it with some paint thinner. I wiped the lens several times to clean it off and smooth the surface of the plastic.

  2. Step 2

Then I sprayed two coats of clear coat paint on them, letting them dry about 10 minutes between coats.

  3. Step 3

Let them dry for at least an hour and then install them back into the car. Try your lights and see if it's all better!

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your lights before disconnecting them from the car wires so bad bulbs can replaced when the housings are removed from the car
  • If your headlamp housings can't be repaired then you will need to replace them, not being able to see at night isn't an option.
