How to Make Organic Carob Chip Dog Cookies
If you're someone who strives to purchase healthy, organic snacks for yourself whenever possible--why not do the same for your "best friend?" There are many reasons to reward pooches with a tasty, healthy treat: good behavior, learning a trick--or simply because you love them and they deserve it. The following is a recipe for carob chip dog treats from Bubba Rose Biscuit Company, that are wheat, corn and soy free (the top three most common dog allergens)--and a sure pleaser for the most discriminating of canine palates. After all--who doesn't love a good "chocolate" chip cookie?
Things You'll Need
- 1 1/2 cups organic oat flour
- 1 1/2 cups organic brown rice flour
- 1 cup organic carob chips
- 1 organic egg (can be substituted with 1/3 cup safflower oil)
- 1 tsp. organic vanilla
- 1 cup water
- Mixing bowl
- Mixing spoon
- Cookie sheet
- Plastic container
Instructions
-
-
1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
-
2
Combine all of the ingredients together in the mixing bowl and mix thoroughly with the mixing spoon.
-
-
3
Roll into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. They can be close together since they won't spread while baking.
-
4
Press each ball down with your hands to flatten. You can also use the bottom of a glass for a rounder shape.
-
5
Bake the cookies 18 to 22 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
-
6
Let the cookies cool completely (preferably on a wire rack) and store at room temperature in a loosely covered container.
-
7
Keep cookies in the refrigerator or on the counter in a loosely covered container. Depending on how dry they are cooked, the cookies can last for up to 3 months and can easily be stored in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Tips & Warnings
More and more supermarkets are starting to carry the flours, but if you can't find them at the market you can easily find them at health food stores.
If you don't have the time to make your own cookies, you can purchase these along with a variety of other natural, organic dog treats from Bubba Rose Biscuit Company (see Resources below).
Never substitute chocolate chips for carob chips; chocolate can be toxic to dogs.
Soy-free carob chips can be hard to find. If you are concerned about soy content and can't locate soy-free chips, you can always substitute with carob powder for the same flavor.
Don't project your love for milk and cookies onto your dog; milk is not good for canines. Water will wash them down just fine.
