Find the title. To donate your junk car you will need to have clear title to it. If you do not have a clear title the vehicle you will need to file a lost title form with the DMW and wait until you have a clear title to sign over.
One way besides direct contact is to go through a charity broker. These companies will arrange for the profits from the sale of the car to go to on of a number of charities they deal with. You may find these companies in your area by doing an internet search.
Often they will charge a small fee for pickup and delivery of the junk car to the salvage yard. You will get a receipt for tax purposes from the charity.
Donating that junk car in your backyard is easy and the right thing to do.
