How to choose whether to watch CNN or MSNBC during a breaking story.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

During a breaking story, both channels break from their scheduled programming. If one channel is maintaining it's schedule while the other one has gone to live announcing, choose the live channel.

  2. Step 2

Switch channels every once in a while to see who is more on topic.

  3. Step 3

CNN tends to repeat its stories every few hours. MSNBC tends to switch to horrifying prison shows. If you sense a repeat or retread of content, switch to another channel.

  4. Step 4

Later at night, one or both channels will likely switch away from live programming. Record the channel you aren't watching on your DVR if you want to watch additional news even after the live programming has stopped.

  5. Step 5

CNN is now using a more interactive internet and blog format on breaking stories. This creates slightly more relevant content at times.
