You may have heard that the Mediterranean diet is among the healthiest diets in the world, but you may be surprised to know that there's more to it than grilled fish and vegetables. Yogurt is an important part of the Greek diet that is a good source of calcium and a tasty treat that can be enjoyed as breakfast, a snack or dessert!

Here's how to make a traditional Greek yogurt parfait:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small container of Greek yogurt
  • Two tablespoons crushed/ground walnuts
  • Two tablespoons honey
  • Optional: 1/2 cup of fresh raspberries or strawberries or the same amount berry preserves
  • Optional: Sprinkle of cinnamon
  1. Step 1

Empty half the contents of a small Greek yogurt canister into a bowl or parfait glass.

  2. Step 2

If adding berries, layer in 1/4 cup of berries or preserves.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle one tablespoon of ground walnuts over the berries/jam.

  4. Step 4

Drizzle one tablespoon of honey over the mix.

  5. Step 5

    Layer in the remaining yogurt.

  6. Step 6

Top off with the remaining berries, walnuts, honey and a pinch of cinnamon to taste.

  7. Step 7

Add a spoon and dig in!

Tips & Warnings
  • While any Greek-type of yogurt will work, I prefer FAGE's 2%. I find it to offer the perfect balance of rich, velvety texture with moderate calories and fat.
  • Do not use walnuts in this recipe if you are allergic to nuts or are serving a group of adults/children who may be allergic.

on 10/18/2008 The greek and yogurt sound good together, but I'm a little bit leary of the "parfait" part. I don't neccessaily need a poofy yogurt! ;-)
