Things You'll Need:
- Quail outline drawing (included in this article)
- Metal or wood to cut the quail from
- Tool to cut out the quail.
- Paint
-
Step 1
Adult quailFirst you will need to use your computer printer to make a copy of the adult quail. I took the paper copy and glued it to a piece of light cardboard (beer carton). Carefully cut out the cardboard. This will be your pattern.
-
Step 2
Baby quailRepeat step 1 using the baby quail drawing.
-
Step 3
Cardboard patternsTrace the cardboard patterns onto whatever material you choose. I used a piece of aluminum I salvaged from a real estate sign. You may want to use wood, steel, or plastic.
-
Step 4
Now comes the hard part. You must cut the material using a jig saw or sheet metal shears (as I did). I left extra meat where the topknot meets the head to make it more sturdy.
-
Step 5
Now you can use your quail as you wish. I cut a groove in a piece of wood and used screws to clamp the quail's feet securely.
-
Step 6
Finished paintingAfter I was finished with the quail, Linda took over and made them beautiful. I wish we had a better camera because the picture doesn't show all the detail in the feathers.
