Affirmations are simply statements that are positive or negative.
Positive affirmations are those that can make the largest impact on your life for the good. Using them daily can bring a higher level of spiritual awareness to your life; as well as, to your happiness.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Desire for change
  • Willingness to make affirmations ON PURPOSE
  1. Step 1

    CONSIDER:

    Do positive affirmations work?

If you think about it, you're affirming all the time ! When you say, "I'm tired" - this is simply a statement based on what you are currently experiencing (or experiencing based on your thoughts.)

Doesn't it make sense to affirm life experiences that you want rather than what you don't ?

  2. Step 2

UNDERSTAND COMMON TIPS FOR QUALITY POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS:

    *Keep it short.

    *Use present tense.

*Make it about you, not someone else.

*It must be something that you really want-something that stirs positive emotion when you think about it.

*Never affirm what you DON'T want, only what you DO.

  3. Step 3

NOTICE EXAMPLES OF CORRECT AND INCORRECT AFFIRMATIONS:

--THIS: "I'm at my ideal weight and have lots of energy !"

NOT: "I'd like to lose weight and not be so tired."

--THIS: "I have more than enough money to meet my needs !"

NOT: "I'd like to not struggle to pay my bills."

  4. Step 4

6 WAYS TO USE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS EFFECTIVELY:

    1) Write it/them down on paper. Keep with you and read frequently.

    2) Make copies and post in areas you frequent (IE: bathroom mirror, car, bedroom ceiling, kitchen table.)

    3) On your cell phone, PDA, or set as wallpaper on your computer.

    4) Record your affirmation in your own voice, with emphasis, on your cell phone's voice memo recorder.

    5) Record your affirmation(s) and play them repeatedly while you're sleeping at night- on a cd player, MP3 player, or other device, using pillow speakers or mini headphones under the pillow.

    6) Put your affirmation to music and sing it ! Think of an easy to remember tune or a personal favorite. Alter your affirmations to fit the music.

"If you're happy and you know it" works well because it's catchy and is likely to get "stuck" in your head replaying over and over !

Sound silly ? Think jingles. Multi billion dollar marketing companies use these silly little songs to convince us to buy their client's products using psychology to put thoughts into your, and my, mind every day !

Why can we not use this same technology to "program" those positive changes that we want in our lives ?

  5. Step 5

KNOW WHAT AFFIRMATIONS CAN BE USED FOR:

(This list is by no means exhaustive, but meant to stimulate your mind to think about what you may want to change in your own life.)

    --Weight loss.
    --Happiness level.
    --Anxiety.
    --Depression.
    --pain Relief.
    --Overall health.
    --Wealth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Affirmations are meant to be a thought process that is used repeatedly.

on 9/13/2008 If more people use positive affirmations instead of thinking negatively, what a great world it would be. You're right, always focus on the DO not the DON'T. Focusing on DON'Ts gives them energy! Thanks!
