Make some of these fragrant ornaments to hang on your tree this year! This project is so easy...my 7-year old did most of the work while I snapped pictures!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 2 Tablespoons white glue
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Drinking straw
  • Mixing spoon
  • Spatula
  • Wax paper
  • Ribbon or yarn
  1. Step 1

    Gather your materials.

  2. Step 2

With spoon, mix the applesauce and the glue together in bowl.

  3. Step 3

Add cinnamon to mixture a little at a time.

  4. Step 4

Knead the dough with your hands until smooth and form a ball. If your dough is too sticky, add more cinnamon. If it's too dry, add more applesauce. It may take a bit of experimenting to get the dough just right.

  5. Step 5

On a sheet of wax paper, roll out dough with rolling pin to desired thickness (about 1/4"). Cut out shape with cookie cutter. Poke a hole in top of shape with a straw so that you can hang your ornament.

  6. Step 6

Lift up ornament with spatula and transfer to a cookie sheet lined with wax paper to dry.

  7. Step 7

Let ornaments dry 2-3 days, turning over occassionally.

  8. Step 8

Thread ribbon, yarn or raffia through hole. Tie ends together to form hanger.

  9. Step 9

Hang on Christmas tree or use as a decorative air freshener!

  10. Step 10

    Enjoy!!

Tips & Warnings
  • If young children are helping you make these, explain that the shapes are not edible!

on 9/22/2008 I'd lost my old recipe for these ornaments, so thanks for sharing the knowledge! I'm planning to make new ones this year to tie on my Christmas gifts as a little bonus.
