Things You'll Need:
- Sturdy cardboard
- Paint or markers
- Craft glue
- Scissor or craft knife
- Hammer
- Nail
- Small bolt with smooth shoulder area
- Nut to fit
- Two washers to fit
-
Step 1
Cut the cardboard in a circular or square shape to make the game spinner base. Based on the length of the bolt you chose, you should cut multiple layers of cardboard to fill the threaded section of the bolt completely. Not only will this allow the game spinner to lie flat on a table, it will make a sturdier game piece that will last longer.
-
Step 2
Use quality craft glue to attach all the layers of the cardboard together in a block. Start with just two layers and continue working until they are all together. Allow each one to dry before continuing. Use a scissor or craft knife to trim the edges to make them even.
-
Step 3
Position the small nail at the direct center of the pieces of cardboard you have cut out. Use the hammer to carefully hammer the nail through the cardboard to create a center hole. The nail should be slightly larger than the bolt you intend to use as the spinner center. The hole needs to be larger than the bolt to allow easy rotation of the spinner.
-
Step 4
Paint or draw on the spinner cardboard piece to create the type of spinner you need for your game. A good idea is to replace a die by drawing lines that intersect in the center and divide the circular spinner base into six equal pieces. Write the numbers one through six in the spaces. You can also create game spinners with colors, shapes, higher numbers, or letters.
-
Step 5
Construct the homemade game spinner by first slipping the bolt down through the hole in the center of the cardboard piece. Make sure the spinner can spin freely on the smooth shoulder portion of the bolt. Slip the washers onto the end of the bolt on the bottom side of the cardboard. Finish by securing the nut to hold it all together. The spinner should be able to be laid flat on a table.
