Things You'll Need:
- Car or other vehicle.
-
Step 1
Contact various vehicle shipping companies to compare prices and available dates.
-
Step 2
Choose and schedule a date for your vehicle to be picked up. Write this is big red letters on your moving schedule.
-
Step 3
Visit your local mechanic for a pre-transit inspection. This is a requirement for many auto transport companies. Make sure that everything passes the inspection and that there are no leaks or other problems that could hinder the vehicle's transport.
-
Step 4
Remove everything that you can from the vehicle. Do not leave any personal effects in the car as the company will not claim responsibility for lost or stolen items.
-
Step 5
Clean the outside of the vehicle. This will make any scratches, dents, or other marks very visable.
-
Step 6
Take photographs of the vehicle from all sides. Make sure that you take close up photos of any damage that is already on the car. Document any damage as well.
-
Step 7
Make a special folder to keep this information in. Also keep recipts and other important documents in this file as they can be important at a later date.
-
Step 8
Check with your auto insurance agent to find out if your car will be covered while in transit. If it is not, set up a special policy that will cover the total loss of your car.
-
Step 9
Make sure to double check and read all paperwork presented to you on the day you release your vehicle to the transport company. This is vitally important if you want to save a big headache.
