1
Choose a basketball hero or foe that you would like to compete against. This can be a world-renowned hoopster like Kobe Bryant or a local player that always seems to beat you. For purposes of this drill, this person is imaginary.
-
2
Determine a spot to shoot your shots. This spot should be the area of the court where you take shots in the game and want to improve on. For instance, a shooting guard may choose a 17-footer from the free throw line extended.
-
-
3
Start out under the basket and toss the ball with backspin to the spot where you want to shoot. The backspin will allow the ball to land in the area you want to shoot and bounce to you like a pass when you get to that spot.
-
4
Hustle to the ball, catch it, pivot to face the basket and take the shot. Pretend that you are in a game and are coming off a screen to catch a pass and take the shot. You should be doing the drill at "Game Speed."
-
5
If you make the shot, give yourself 1 point. If you miss the shot, give your opponent (e.g. Michael Jordan) 2 points.
-
6
The first player who reaches 10 points is the winner.

Tips & Warnings
For beginners, award one point for a made shot and award your "opponent" one point for a missed shot.
Be sure to execute this drill at game speed, as it will prepare you for game situations.
The competition will push you to focus on making the shots instead of just going through the motions.
Keep the game fresh by changing competitors.
If you want to extend your shooting practice session, challenge your "competitor" to a best of seven series.
After you whip Michael Jordan, be sure to brag to anyone that will listen that you "beat Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant is scared to play you!"
