Go Green!
Go Green!

You can't help but have noticed how many people are jumping on the go green bandwagon. And for good reason. The polor ice caps are melting at an alarming rate and the envoironment is drastically chaging! Don't worry! You can help by using these tips!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start Buying Organic Whenever Possible!
Helping the environment can start right in your grocery store. By choosing organic items over the latter, you are promoting healthier soil and less drinking water contamination. Eliminating the use of pesticides and herbicides is better for your body as well as the environment.

  2. Step 2

    Buy Natural Body Care Items
Avoid commercial toiletries. These items contain chemicals that are harmful both to you and the environment. If less people are buying these items, less chemicals will be produced. Companies like Burt's Bee's, Dr. Bronner's and Jason are leading the way for the natural personal care industry.

  3. Step 3

    Reuse Grocery Bags
It can take hundreds of years for plastic bags to decompose in the environment. Purchasing reusable bags can even save you money. Some grocery stores are now offering a 5 cent reimbursement every time you use a reusable bag!

  4. Step 4

    Buy Natural Cleaning Products
Purchasing natural cleaning products is better for both your family and the environment. Choose cleaners that use plant based elements as apposed to chemicals. They work just as well, if not better than their conventional counterparts. Try Seventh Generation brand. They also offer coupons for you to save $$$. What a bargain!

  5. Step 5

    Turn the Water off!
If you turn off the water while brushing your teeth, you will be surprised at how much water you can save. Give it a try!

  6. Step 6

    Reuse Water Bottles
Instead of purchasing bottled water, save money and the environment by reusing a plastic water bottle. Life's Good carries some nice bottles with cheery slogans on them.

  7. Step 7

Don't Request a Receipt at the ATM
According to NOLA, If everyone in the US refused their receipts, it would save a roll of paper more then two billion feet long or enough to circle the equator 15 times.2

  8. Step 8

Do Not Throw Out Your Toxic Household Wastes
Do not throw out your toxic household wastes, such as paint, paint thinner and car fluids, in the garbage or down the drain. Check with your local facilities for proper disposal and avoid these products in the future.

  9. Step 9

Use Voice Mail Instead of Answer Machines
Answer machines guzzle energy 24/7. When they stop functioning, they become hazardous waste in the nation's landfills.

  10. Step 10

    Turn Off Power Strips...
When they are not in use - The average American household continuously leaks abut 50 watts of electricity.

on 2/8/2009 #7 is very interesting - I never thought of that! Those receipts can get cumbersome anyway, cluttering up tables, wallets, and dressers.
