Things You'll Need:
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsps baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- Green gummy bears
- Green food coloring
- Red and yellow icing
- Peppermint patties - either small or large
- Paper muffin cups or foil wraps for hamburgers
-
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 375 F. Using an electric mixer, cream together butter or margarine and sugar until fluffy. Add 2 eggs and mix well, then add vanilla. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add slowly to the wet mixture and blend well. Take the dough, cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
-
Step 2
If you are using the large peppermint patties, divide the dough into 12 pieces. For the smaller "hamburgers," divide it into roughly thirty-six. (You don't have to be that exact.) Mold each piece into a bun shape and then using a sharp knife, cut it in half. Lay each half flat side down on your cookie sheet.
-
Step 3
Beat the remaining egg. Use a pastry brush to coat the "tops" of the cookie "buns." Sprinkle a few sesame seeds on each. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes until they are golden brown.
-
Step 4
While the cookies are baking you can get some of your condiments ready. Place the coconut in a baggie or a container with a lid with a few drops of green food coloring, just enough to turn the coconut a light green color, then shake. This is your lettuce. Now take your gummy worms and slice then in half along their long axis, then do the same thing you did to the coconut but make them a medium green shade. Then put the gummy worm slices on a plate to dry before using.
-
Step 5
Once the "buns" have cooled, you can assemble the cookies. Place the bottom halves of the buns in a row and spread enough yellow or red icing so that your "hamburger" will stay in place. Put the mint patties on top. Squirt a few lines of mustard and ketchup over the patties so there is enough to leak just slightly out the sides when the top of the buns are in place. Wind a gummy worm around in a circle so that it looks like a pickle hanging out the side. Finish off with a sprinkling of coconut lettuce, then put the top of the bun over this.
-
Step 6
If you like, you can also wrap each hamburger in foil or put them in a paper muffin cup, but that's up to you. I do recommend serving them with shoestring potato chips, and maybe a coke...or make that an RC. You should also consider making hot dog cookies.
