There’s a simple mixture of household products you can use to remove rust stains caused by a leaking faucet in a porcelain sink. If you use a rubber sink pad, it too can be cleaned and sanitized.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent
  • 1/2 cup liquid chlorine bleach
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  1. Step 1

Plug the drain and then fill the sink with enough water to cover the drain and the rust stain.

  2. Step 2

Add the liquid dishwashing detergent, bleach, and vinegar in the proportions shown under "Things You'll Need."

  3. Step 3

Leave the solution in the sink over night. In the morning, the stain should be gone. Drain the sink and rinse with hot water.

on 8/25/2009 Very useful indeed but not applicable to all stains. I found a useful white paper which revolves around types of stains together with natural and artificial ways to remove them:
