Step 1
Fill out the application for incorporation. This step has to be done before any other steps are taken.

Decide on a board of directors. These people will oversee the nonprofit organization and meet monthly or bi monthly to discuss any issues regarding the organization.

Plan the mission and vision statement for the organization. This will be what the organization is going to do and will list how they will do it.

Write out the bylaws of the organization. There should also be policies for the board members. The bylaws will detail what can be done and not done by the organization. The policies for the board members will detail what they can and cannot do or say.

File for the federal ID number with the government. File for tax exempt status at the same time. After the organization has the Federal ID number, a checking account can be opened

Read the regulations concerning nonprofit organization for both local and state laws. It is important that all the laws and regulations be followed correctly.

Look for office space and buy the necessary equipment. The office will only have to be large enough for staff members.

Hire staff members and make a manual that every person will have to follow to be involved in the nonprofit organization.

Set up a payroll system and apply for any insurance that will be needed to conduct business for the organization.

Plan a meeting to develop the fundraising events. Detail how the organization will raise funds for the nonprofit organization. It is important to have a plan for at least a year in advance.
