Things You'll Need:
- Digital camera
- USB cable (it should come with your camera)
- Computer
-
Step 1
Upload your digital pictures to your computer as soon as possible after taking them. Labeling those pictures will be much easier while they're still fresh in your memory. This also prevents too many pictures from accumulating in your camera.
-
Step 2
Use folders! Organize the pictures into folders by year. Then create sub-folders for important events, like "Florida Vacation" or "Mike's Graduation."
-
Step 3
Get descriptive! Windows Vista has a caption feature where you can write detailed captions for your pictures. If you don't have this feature on your computer, name your pictures as descriptively as possible so you can look back on them later and remember what they are.
-
Step 4
Store pictures in more than one place. Storing them on your computer is fine, but you should also store them somewhere else, such as a portable disk drive or a network drive. You never know when something is going to happen to your computer, and you don't want to lose all your precious photos!

on 4/9/2009 Great article on organizing your digital photos! For me, the biggest challenge is deciding to delete the photos that just aren't that good. 5* and a recommend.
