Step 1
If you have an application that freezes, or hangs-up for no reason, you can use the Force Quit function to quit the application without having to restart your computer.
-
Step 2
Force Quitting an application works best if you click away from the application that is freezing or hanging up. Click back to the Finder icon in the dock, or click on the desktop to navigate away from the frozen application.
-
Step 3
Once you are in the Finder, you have two options. One is to go the the Apple Menu Bar at the top left of the computer screen and select the Force Quit option. A window will appear that says Force Quit Applications. Here you can see which applications are acting up. Select the application and press the Force Quit button in the window.
Another way of Force Quitting an application is to click on the application's icon in the dock. Single click the icon in the dock and hold your mouse button down for about two seconds. A pop up window will appear that allows you to Quit or Force Quit the application as the case may be. -
Step 4
If the Finder itself is acting up, your best bet is to restart the Computer. Relaunching or Force Quitting the Finder rarely works correctly, and effects the performance of the computer until a restart.
