It used to be that 30 was the magical age when we were told to begin an anti-aging skincare regimen. No longer true. Women are now starting to take measures to keep away those dreaded wrinkles early in their twenties. With so many skin care products on the market today, a newbie to skincare is left totally confused. Without proper knowledge you can end up spending hundreds of dollare on products that you don't need and don't work.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Facial cleanser-Up until now you probably have been using any old bar of soap that's in your bathroom to wash your face in the mornings. Your first anti-aging purchase should be a good facial cleanser. Depending on what your wallet allows, these range from Drugstore brands such as Neutrogena to dept store brands like Philosophy. I recommend buying a few different brands and trying each out to get an understanding of which has the best effect on your skin.

  2. Step 2

Exfoliator- The exfoliator is used to clear away dead skin cells and help unclog pores. Depending on the condition of your skin, you can choose to exfoliate daily, every other day or weekly. Early on when you are first starting to think about the signs of aging, your skin is still in pretty good shape so you should be able to get away with once a week. Again, as you start seeing the difference the exfoliation has on your skin, you'll be able to tell how often you need to use the exfoliatior.

  3. Step 3

Moisturizer- Moisturizer is like a drink of water for your skin. How dry your skin is will dictate the type of moisturizer you need. If you notice that your skin is extremely dry or during the winter months you should always try to apply moisturizer once in the morning and once in the evening.

  4. Step 4

Eye serums- Moisturizer is best kept away from sensitive eye area. There are specialized eye creams on the market to treat anything from under eye circles to puffiness to crows feet(which hopefully you won't have to worry about for a long time:))

  5. Step 5

Finally a facial mask should be used once weekly as the finishing touch to your weeklong regimen.

  6. Step 6

Most skincare lines will over free skin analysis to help you pick which products are specifically targeted for your own skintype. Also, I always recommend using one Skincare line for all your products. Reason being that all brands using different active ingredients that may or may not have an adverse reaction with the ingredients used by another brand.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to try products without risk, try shopping from QVC or HSN. They offer 30 day money back guarantees even if the products have been used. This is a great way to try out different skin care lines to figure out which is right for you.
  • Warning-Once you enter the world of skincare it can be very addictive!
  • Enjoy!

on 2/2/2009 thanks for mentioning the tip about using just one product line, I'm in the Skin Care business and the top reason for acne and rosatia issues are skin irritations from mixing product lines.
