Inflate a Car Tire

One way to save on gas consumption in your car is to be sure your tires are inflated to the correct pressure. Want to learn how to check your tire pressure? Maybe you need to add air? Follow these easy steps to learn how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • car with tires
  • tire gauge
  • air pump for car tires -- found at most gas stations
  1. Step 1

Check your car manual to find out the proper pressure for your tires.

  2. Step 2

Remove the valve cap on the tire.

  3. Step 3

Place the bulbous part of the tire gauge over the tire valve and press down. You will hear a hissing sound. The back of the gauge will display the pressure reading.

  4. Step 4

If your tire pressure is low, add more air. To do this, press the head of the tire pump over the tire valve. Hold it for a minute then remove it and recheck your tire pressure with your tire gauge.

  5. Step 5

If still need more air, add it. If you have over-inflated your tire, press the pin in the middle of the tire valve down to release some air. Recheck your tire pressure.

  6. Step 6

Repeat step 5 until you reach the proper pressure for your tire.
