How to Really Get the Pick of the Litter

Picking a pet, from first eye sight, can be like picking your spouse for life from a photo album. There's possibly a better way.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Let the pet pick you. Almost it seems without fail, when a family gets out of a car to select a pet, they try to catch the one, that doesn't want anything to do with them.

  2. Step 2

Don't under estimate animal intelligence, if you want to be more than just another pet owner. Unless your just looking for a pet to resell on its looks, you should be looking for a pet that loves you, one that wants you, and one that might risk their life for you, if the occasion occurs.

  3. Step 3

Learn from this true story, if you want to pick a good pet. A visitor, referred by a free kitten newspaper ad, was asked, which cat do you want? He thought to himself, I'm undecided. The cat, that first caught his attention from the looks stand point, was more interested in food than him. Another cat left the food and leaped into his lap. He said, I'll take this one. (The cat chose him and was faithful unto its owner for its entire life. It was not just a door to door cat looking for fish).

Tips & Warnings
  • Just ask this question to yourself. (Any animal loves you or that tasty treat you have to offer until the food is gone). Do you want to be an animal feeder or the owner of a loving pet?
  • That one black pet, amongst all white ones, or vice versus, will lose its attention drawing capability, when it leaves the litter.

on 9/30/2008 good article but the language came off as a bit harsh. vindictive perhaps? "stupid pet owner" - yes there are some owners who shouldn't have anything to do with animals but if you write an article please be less biased.
