Jogging to lose real weight.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    See a Dr. first, You will need to see a Dr. so you know you won't have a heart attack when you start jogging.

  2. Step 2

    Find a place to run, whether it be a park or at a school. As long as you don't have to go far to get to it. Preferably near your house.

  3. Step 3

    Create a jogging log. You can go to runnersworld to create a runners/jogging log for free. It really helps to see how you are progressing, and it will motivate you more.

  4. Step 4

    Get good running shoes. You WILL be in some pain when you start jogging at first. But get some running shoes and it will help a lot.

  5. Step 5

    It helps me to use an mp3 player, I like to listen to my favorite music when jogging. Just becareful, you do not want to have the music too loud, otherwise you will not be able to hear for danger, like cars aproaching and things.

Tips & Warnings
  • Here is how I started, I was 75 lbs over weight and out of shape.
  • First week, walk two minutes then jog easy for two minutes, do this 7 times, at 3 or 4 times in week 1.
  • Second week, increase it, walk 2 minutes, jog 3 minutes. Do this 6 times, 3 or 4 times in week 2.
  • Third week, increase, walk 2 minutes, jog 4 minutes. Do this 5 times, 3 or 4 times in week 3.
  • Increase until you can jog for 30 minutes without rest.
  • If you are running only 30 minutes, drink water. You should not drink sports drinks unless you are working out an hour or more.
  • Weigh yourself before the jog. Then again after you jog. For every pound you have lost (and it is from sweating, just water) You will need to replenish, with 2 cups of water for every pound lost. ex. If you lose 2 pounds, drink 4 glasses of water.
  • Watch out for hazards while running
  • Cars
  • People
  • Things on the road where you might trip

on 7/31/2009 I have been jogging for about a year now. I haven't lost that much weight, but I feel considerably better than I did. Something's definitely working.

The only advise I would add is to pay close attention to your joints. If you start getting twinges of pain in a knee, take a break for a couple of days. It took me a while to find the right balance where I get the best workout I can without ruining my knees. Right now I run/walk for a half hour three days out of every four. That seems to work best for me.
