Instructions

    • 1

Assemble all ingredients and preheat oven to 350. Mix dry cinnamon instant oatmeal (about 3-4 packages) if not using some regular oatmeal. Enough to make topping for 2 cans of apple pie mix, with the quarter cup of brown sugar. Blend well.

    • 2

Melt the butter, at least 3-4 tablespoons in a microwavable cup.
Coat the bottom of the baking dish with butter and add the apple pie mix. Spreading out to cover the bottom of dish. Now pour the oatmeal misture over the top of the pie filling, dispensing evenly. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the oatmeal topping.

    • 3

Place mixture into the preheated oven till bubbly and the oatmeal has crisped up on top. This makes a soft type of apple crisp that would be good for anyone who needs tasty soft foods. But has some crispiness to the top. Serve with ice cream while hot.

Tips & Warnings

  • I used 2 cans for the recipe given above.

  • I cooked it till fairly crisp about 30 min.

  • Vanilla ice cream topped it off. Soft Serve.

  • If using fresh apples you might need to add about a 1/4th cup or less of flour to the oatmeal. But instant is rather floury already, so an added pack would do nicely and still have the spices you need. Bake till apples are tender. Just about the same as for canned mix. A little lemon juice added to apples will keep them from turning dark while preparing. And make the sweetness less dense flavor.

  • This gets very hot and bubbly so be cautious when serving immediately.

  • Buy a lot of instant oatmeal. The winter is coming and your family will want it often.
