Deal With Annoying Gym Members

Finding the energy and motivation to haul yourself into the gym for a workout is not always easy. But once you get there, exercising and working up a sweat should be easy, right? Well, not always. Especially if you are a nice, approachable person who tends to attract those annoying gym members who love to talk instead of exercise. Learn a few easy-to-implement tricks for dealing with these annoying gym members.

Things You'll Need:

  • Awareness
  • Quick Thinking
  1. Step 1

Keep Moving - Enter the gym or health club and keep moving. Start your workout immediately and don't linger. Pesky gym members flock to stationary targets. If you are done working out on a particular machine, or if you are just taking a little exercise break, walk around and get lost in the maze of exercise machines on the gym floor. A moving gym target is harder to corner.

  2. Step 2

Don't Make Eye Contact - Avoid making eye contact with annoying gym members. Hit your workout routine hard and focus on your exercising. Pretend to be so immersed in your gym workout that you have no external awareness. Doing this will help you not only complete your gym workout faster, but it will also energize your workout with a renewed sense of vigor!

  3. Step 3

Bow out Quickly - If you get caught in a conversation with an annoying gym member, cut the dialogue off fast! Make up an excuse, pretend to be pressed for time, or outright lie if you have to. The goal is to escape and continue your gym workout without being rude or mean-spirited! Most obnoxious gym members mean no harm nor foul; but cut them off fast!

  4. Step 4

Share the Annoyance - Introduce your annoying gym friend to others and, preferably, make a quick escape after the intros. That way your pesky buddy will have more health club members to share himself with. I know that's a little heartless, but oh well! Why suffer alone? Be kind - share your annoying gym buddy with others and then get to working out!

Tips & Warnings
  • Be picky about who you associate with at the gym or health club
  • Avoid the odd or eccentric types
  • Adjust your workout times and/or workout days if necessary
