Wall stencils bring extra dimension and interest to a room. They are great for kids' rooms and any place you want to create a sense of dimension. Wall stencils can provide windows to other worlds. Some wall stencil methods require more than one set of stencils. The watercolor brush method only needs one set. This method uses outlining to lay out stencil patterns on the walls. Used in France during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, this method can translate to other surfaces. However, the Stencil Watercolor Brush Method is a wall stenciling technique.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yellow stencil paper
  • Hard lead pencil
  • Stencil designs
  • Small watercolor brushes
  1. Step 1

Prepare walls with a coat of latex paint, preferably light colors. Latex paint makes corrections and touch-up much easier.

  2. Step 2

Cut selected stencil designs from yellow stencil paper. You will need only one set of stencils.

  3. Step 3

Hold stencils in place with one hand while you lightly outline the pattern in pencil with the other hand. Outline every area in the room before you begin to fill in the stencils.

  4. Step 4

Carefully fill in your stencil outlines. Use small watercolor brushes. When applied to latex paint background, errors or going outside the lines can be easily repaired, especially if done quickly.
