Step 1
Choose a bra that is designated specifically for nursing. These types of bras will have easy-open flaps that will accommodate a hungry baby without compromising your sanity.
-
Step 2
Choose a bra that is at least one cup size larger than what you are in while pregnant. When your milk comes in, your breasts will get larger.
-
Step 3
Make sure that you choose a bra that is not tight or constricting. These types of bras can encourage breast infections and will not be comfortable at all for nursing your baby.
-
Step 4
Choose a bra that fastens and unfastens easily, and preferably with one hand. Your baby will not be very happy if you have to lay him down to get ready.
-
Step 5
Choose a cotton bra. Fancier bras, which may include plastic liners and other fabrics, are somewhat restricting and may not allow your skin to breathe properly. They may also not absorb very well which could lead to a puddle of milk in your bra.
-
Step 6
Choose a bra that supports both breasts, even when your nipple is exposed for feeding.
