How to Create a Blind Fantasy Football Draft

Players of fantasy football enjoy both live and automated drafts. A blind fantasy football draft may not be familiar to most people. This can be a fun way to create your fantasy football rosters and add some intrigue to the draft. It's also something you may want to consider if you have new or particularly weak owners in the league. Here is how to create a blind fantasy football draft.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin by determining how many overall players will be in the fantasy football league. To do this, you'll need to multiply the number of owners by football players on each team. The reason you have to do this is so that you will know how many players from the NFL you will have to rank for the blind draft.

    • 2

Rank NFL players from best to worst in each of the positions scored in your fantasy football league. You should rank every starting quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and kicker. You shouldn't need to rank any “backups” for a blind fantasy football draft as the teams shouldn't have that many positions. You can also use previously created rankings from sources such as Yahoo, ESPN or Sports Illustrated.

    • 3

Create the order that owners will make their selections during the draft. You can do this by luck of the draw, “worst to best” or any other way you wish.

    • 4

Place the names of the players available in the blind fantasy football draft in different baskets depending on their playing position. For example, all quarterbacks should go into one basket, all running backs in another and so on.

    • 5

Allow owners to decide which position they want to fill on their teams and when. Placing all of the NFL players into one basket makes the blind draft too difficult as an owner could end up with six receivers and no quarterbacks. Continue in this manner until all rosters are filled.

    • 6

Only allows owners to pick up a player from “free agency” is one of their players gets injured. Owners should be able to make trades with one another whenever they wish, though. This forces the owners to work with the teams that they blindly chose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the league to no more than eight owners and keep the rosters small. A good example would be: Starters: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 team defense; and Bench: 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 team defense.
