Get the Secret "Development Room" Ending in Chrono Trigger

Of all the various endings available in the classic Super Nintendo role-playing game Chrono Trigger, the "Development Room" is the hardest to find as it requires that you beat the final boss of the game using only two characters with limited resources. If you can manage to get the ending, you will be treated with special messages from the developers of the game.

Things You'll Need

  • Chrono Trigger game (SNES or PS1 Version)
  • Super NIntendo or Playstation game console

Instructions

    • 1

Play completely through the entire game a first time, taking any of the various game branch options available and acquiring any ending that you want.

    • 2

Start a new game using the "New Game +" feature that becomes available once the main storyline is finished at least once through.

    • 3

Go to the Millenial Fair, and bump into Marle, just as you did during the first time through the game. After she joins the party, go to the far north end of the fair where Lucca has her teleportation machines set up.

    • 4

Do not speak with Lucca, but instead examine the glowing spark that looks like a power tab near the machine on the right side of the screen. Chrono and Marle will be warped through time to the year 1999 A.D. and forced to fight Lavos, the final boss of the game.

    • 5

Defeat Lavos in combat to be taken to the "Development Room" ending. You will still be able to control Chrono's movements throughout most of the ending, speaking with various characters named after the game's programmers who will talk about their favorite sports teams and give additional information about how to get the other endings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to spend a good amount of time having Chrono and Marle gain levels through combat, and take the time to acquire all of their best equipment in your first play through the game. Otherwise, the battle with Lavos will be nearly impossible on the second go-round.
