Before owning a pug, there are a few things you should know. Pugs are wonderful companions, but there are three attributes that make owning them challenging: They shed, sneeze and snore. If you intend to rescue a pug, make sure you have a good vacuum cleaner. Even though their coats are short, they shed all the time. Brush them daily. Sneezing is spraying. When a pug sneezes, it will spray your face and clothes. They are prone to colds, so sneezing is a part of life with a pug. Pugs snore a lot and loud. If you intend to have the pug sleep in your bedroom, be prepared to cope with loud snoring. Pugs are indoor dogs, but they do need daily walks. They tend to gain weight easily, so you must watch their food intake. They adapt well with other animals and will be your constant shadow. They are lovable, adorable and loyal.

Once you have made the decision to own a pug, taking in a rescue pug is a wonderful choice. These pugs have either been abandoned or their owners could no longer take care of them. Pug Rescue of New England covers the six states of New England: Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island. Their mission is to find a home for abandoned and surrendered pugs in the New England area. They accept all pugs and make sure the dogs have seen a veterinarian, been updated on shots and have had any illnesses treated.

You may fill out the PRoNE application online. The website is in the Resources section below. Once you have filled out the application, you will receive a follow-up phone call. Then you are put on a waiting list. Pugs are not given on a first come, first served basis. The pugs are cared for in foster homes. Each pug's personality is taken into consideration for each person adopting. You cannot visit the pug because the pugs are cared for all over New England. Once a compatible match is made, you may visit the pug.
