My interpretation of Dalek's Space Monkey

If you are a fan of Dalek's Space Monkeys, you are in luck. Space Monkeys are popping up everywhere. You can purchase Space Monkey action figures, hoodies, shower curtains and posters. Dalek, aka James Marshall, the creator of the Space Monkeys, uses simple circles and lines to create his basic character.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose which one of Dalek's Space Monkeys you want to draw. If you're not sure, view some of Dalek's work online. There is definitely no shortage of links to his work.

    • 2

Create the Space Monkey's head by drawing a 3" circle in the middle of your paper. Add the neck at the bottom using very straight lines.

    • 3

Place ears on the head. Draw a 2 1/2" circle on the upper left side of the head and a 4 1/2" circle on the upper right side.

    • 4

Add in the Space Monkey's main facial features. Mouth: Draw a moon shape rising up from the bottom left of the circle. Eyeball: Draw a 1 1/2" circle placed near the bottom of the mouth. Hole in the head: Place an oval in the middle of the forehead.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dalek's Space Monkeys have three common characteristics: one big eyeball, a hole in the head and they always face left.

  • A compass makes drawing perfect circles a breeze.

  • Circle sizes are for the purpose of illustration only. Draw them any size you desire.

  • Dalek draws his Space Monkeys with clean, precise lines so be sure to erase all unnecessary pencil marks.
