Sew a Halloween Favor Cone

This simple Halloween favor cone is a wonderful way to present candies and treats for all your special trick or treaters. They are fast and easy to assemble, and you could easily make a dozen or more in a few hours. Volunteer to bring favor cones for your child's class Halloween party.     Things You'll Need

    • 9" square of Halloween fabric
    • 9" square of lining fabric
    • 9" square of fusible interfacing
    • Single-fold bias tape
    • Plastic bat or spider ring
    • Hot glue
    • Newspaper
    • Compass
    • Measuring tape
    • Sewing machine
    • Scissors
    • Iron

        Cut a 9" square from newspaper.

        Make the cone pattern by placing the point of the compass on one corner tip of the newspaper. Open the compass and place the pencil on one adjacent corner. Draw a quarter circle to the other adjacent corner. Cut out the favor cone pattern.

        Cut one favor cone from the fusible interfacing.

        Lay the Halloween fabric on a flat surface with the wrong side up. Place the interfacing cone on the Halloween fabric with the glue side down. Iron the fusible interfacing to the fabric. Cut away the excess fabric.

        Lay the lining fabric on a flat surface. Pin the favor cone pattern to the lining fabric and cut out the favor cone.

        Fold the Halloween favor cone shape with the right sides together. Match the straight edges. Sew a 1/4" seam allowance along the straight edge.

        Repeat step 6 for the favor cone lining.

        Trim the excess from the seams.

        Turn the Halloween favor cone right side out. Use the closed end of the scissors to gently push out the cone's point.

        Place the sewn lining cone inside the favor cone with the wrong sides together.

        Match and pin the two edges together. Sew a basting stitch around the top edge of the cone.

        Unfold one side of the bias tape and sew it, with the right side down, to the inside edge of the Halloween favor cone. Overlap the ends at the cone seam.

        Trim the seam excess from the top of the favor cone.

        Cut a five inch piece of bias tape. Fold the length of the bias tape in half and top stitch the edges together.

        Fold the sewn bias tape in half and tack the raw ends to the top of the favor cone seam, with the loop hanging down.

        Fold the bias tape on the rim of the favor cone to the outside edge and pin. Top-stitch the bias tape around the favor cone top.Cut the ring from the plastic spider or bat. Glue the spider or bat to the center front of the Halloween favor bag.

    Tips & Warnings

    • For smaller or larger cones, just shorten or lengthen the quarter circle pattern.

    • The seams for both the outer cone and the inner lining need to be exactly the same width to assure the top edges will line up before basting.
