Measure the person that the costume is for. Start at the top of their head and measure all the way down to their kneecaps. Take this number and add 6inches to it. That is the length of fabric you need. For the width, subtract one foot from the length . This is the width of fabric you will need. Purchase two pieces of green felt in the exact same size.

2
Lay the fabric out on a flat surface. Place the two pieces of fabric on top of each other so the edges meet perfectly. Start at the top. Go directly to the center of the fabric. Cut two diagonal lines so you start to form a triangle. Cut the triangular lines all the way out to the edges. Continue to cut into the felt and make angles outward, forming the cut out sections of a Christmas tree shape.

3
Measure 6 inches down from the top. Place a small side plate 6 inches from the top so there are 6 inches still sticking up. Trace the plate and cut out the circle. This is the head hole. About 1/4 to 1/3 of the way down from the top, cut out a half circle on both sides. These are the arm holes.

4
Thread the sewing machine with a green cotton thread that closely matches the color of your felt. Sew (doing a simple stitch method) along the edges of the felt except the bottom and arm holes--have these open and free. Pick several different colors of felt. Trace a small cup so you have 6 to 10 circles. Cut these out and decorate them with puffy paint so they look like ornaments. Cut a star out of yellow or gold felt.

5
Cover the back of a felt ornament with fabric glue and stick to the tree costume. Hold for 10 seconds to ensure it is secure. Repeat with all the ornaments, arranging them on the front and back as you see fit. Add the star to the top of the costume with the same method. using puffy paint to add additional decoration to your costume.
