How to Build a Snowman Family in Your Yard

Building a snowman family in your front yard is one of the most fun activities that you can do after a snowfall in winter. It’s also a great way to add seasonal decorations to your front lawn for free. Not only can you do it yourself, but it is also a great activity to do with your family and friends. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Bring out all of your accessories for your snow family. You’re going to need four carrots, a larger hat, a smaller hat, cheap pink plastic rollers, a bunch of sticks, lids to cans or jars, a cheap Halloween wig and a couple of scarves. It’s better to have all of them ready and on hand so you don’t have to run all over to get them.

    • 2

Form your snow family. Start out by making the two bigger snow parents. Roll two giant snow balls, followed by two medium and then two smaller ones. Have the larger ones as the bottoms, the medium snowballs put on top of the larger ones and then put the smaller ones on top. You can make the two snow kids as either two parts or three parts. Roll the snow balls the same way as you did for the snow parents, but make them shorter in size. Put them on your lawn where you can easily see them and easily fix them if they need it.

Give them faces and limbs. If you have enough jar or can lids, you can use them to make a pair of eyes on each snow person. A little black paint on each of the lids will make them more visible in the snow. For the arms you can use two large sticks on either side of each snowperson. For the smile, break apart sticks, put them flat against the top snowball, and push them in deep enough so that they won‘t fall out, but not so deep that they won’t be seen. Carrots can be used for the noses.

Dress them. For the father, you can use a large hat; for the mother, you can take the cheap plastic pink rollers and stick them all over the top and sides of the head to give the illusion of the hair being in curlers; for the daughter, you can use the cheap Halloween wig; and for the son, you can use a baseball cap.

Add the scarves around the necks. Every good snowperson can use a bright and colorful scarf to wear as they sit on your front lawn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don’t use any expensive items to decorate the snow family. If someone steals it, it’s better that they take a cheap item as opposed to an expensive one.
