How to View Headers and Footers in Microsoft Excel 2003

Up until a few years ago, headers and footers were predominately features included in word-processing software. But as more users demanded that this feature be included in other programs, like spreadsheet software applications, the designers were all ears. Now users are able to create and insert custom headers and footers into spreadsheet programs like Excel, and even edit and view them at the click of a mouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Scroll to the “View” tab on the command bar; the “View” submenu will open.

    • 2

Under the “View” submenu, select “Header and Footer” to open the Header and Footer Properties box.

    • 3

View the headers and footers by looking at the “Header” preview box at the top and the “Footer” preview box at the bottom. If you find that you wish to make any changes, simply click on the “Custom Header” or “Custom Footer” buttons to amend them.

    • 4

If you have made any changes, click on the "OK" button to implement them. You can also click on this button to close the box if you have not made any changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Double-checking your headers and footers will minimize errors that may be contained within them, especially if you're sharing a workbook.

  • Remember to specify if you wish to include the header or footer when printing.
