The Poulan Wild Thing Chain Saw is a high speed woodcutting tool. It boasts a powerful 40cc engine and comes fully assembled with an 18” bar and automatic chain oiler. The Wild Thing Chain Saw requires periodic adjustments in order to be properly maintained. The manufacturer recommends replacing the spark plug and air filter once each year, but it is a good idea to clean the air filter after every 5 hours of use.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Poulan Wild Thing Chain Saw
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Bucket of Hot, Soapy Water
  • Bucket of Cool, Clean Water
  1. Step 1

Loosen the three retaining screws on the cylinder cover located on the top rear of the chain saw engine by turning them counter clockwise with the Phillips head screwdriver. Lift the cylinder cover off and set it aside.

  2. Step 2

Remove the air filter cover located beneath the cylinder cover on the rear of the chain saw engine. Set the air filter cover aside.

  3. Step 3

Remove the air filter located beneath the air filter cover. Immerse the air filter into the bucket of hot, soapy water. Wash the air filter gently to remove any soot, exhaust buildup, or debris.

  4. Step 4

Remove the air filter from the soapy water. Rinse the air filter thoroughly in the bucket of cool, clean water. Remove the clean air filter from the water and allow it to air dry before proceeding.

  5. Step 5

Replace the air filter back into its housing on the rear of the chain saw engine. Replace the air filter cover back on top of the air filter. Replace the cylinder cover on the top rear of the chain saw engine. Tighten the three retaining screws by turning them clockwise with the Phillips head screwdriver until they are snug. Do not overtighten the screws.
