  • Google account
  1. Step 1

Open your Google account online. There is a link supplied in the Resources section below to the main Google website. Complete the sign in procedure by clicking the “Sign in” link that is located at the top right. Supply both your account email and password (in the spaces provided) and then click the button.

  2. Step 2

Access your Google account page. Click on the link in the top right corner of the page titled: “My Account." This will open a new page that is your Google account. Go to your Google Alert section. On the top right of the page under “My Products,” click on the link titled “Alerts.” This opens your Alerts homepage.

  3. Step 3

Decide on what type of alert to obtain. You can obtain up to 1,000 alerts with one email address and even more if you use a separate email address. You are able to receive six forms of them. This includes the following types: news, web, blog, comprehensive, video and groups. Figure out what type of alert(s) you want. You can always add more of them later on, but for now come up with a subject you want to be alerted about.

  4. Step 4

Set up an Alert. Use the box provided on the right side of the page. Type in the subject you want to monitor in the text box. Select the type of alert you desire from the drop down arrow and how frequently you want to receive it. Verify the email address under “Your email” and make changes, if needed. Click on the “Create Alert” button to finish the process. A page will open showing the alert. Repeat this step as many times as needed for each additional Google Alert.

  5. Step 5

Learn more about Google Alerts. You can find more information about each of the available alerts by going to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section via the link provided on the upper right of the page.
