Cheek color in autumn is more amplified than during the warmer months given the warm harvest colors of clothing and the post-summer glow from the warmer months. Plus, who can forget the natural flush to your cheeks you get from being outside in cooler weather. Balancing the tones of your fall wardrobe and the natural flush of your cheeks is essential in fall. To transition your look, learn how to maintain rosy cheeks while not dramatically changing your natural skin tone. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Highlight or finely milled shimmer
  • Creme or gel blush

Instructions

    • 1

Pump up your usual shade by applying one thin layer at a time to gradually build the color. This works best if your regular blush is of a light to medium shade.

    • 2

Make your look more festive by adding a highlight to the tops of your cheekbones or by blending a very small amount of finely milled shimmer into your regular blush.

    • 3

Give creme or gel blush a try for richer texture and color respectively. Make sure to fade any evident edges away with a clean makeup sponge or to work as quickly as you can to distribute the color if using a gel, which dries rapidly.

    • 4

Layer a lighter, brighter pop of color over a deeper one for more dimension. First, lay down a deep flesh tone over the apples of your cheeks. You may use a bronzer a notch or two darker than your skin. On top of it, brush on a lighter burst of color with a fluffy blush brush. Blend evident streaks or lines away.

    • 5

Use colors more suited for fall, such as the various berries, deep pinks and mauves. If you normally don't stock these in your makeup box, don't worry--you can continue using them in the wintertime. A light layer of these fall shades is all you need during autumn; to transition into winter, simply add a little bit more.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't forget to take the rest of your face into consideration when changing your blush for fall. Coordinate the intensity of your application with your eyes and lips for balance.

I've never worn blush because I have no idea how to do it and the few times I tried I got that "crazy grandma" look...lol I always admire it on people who know what they're doing, so maybe it's time to give it another try :-)
