Step 1
Go to Heroes Square (Hosok Tere). This historic square has been in existence since 1896, and was built for the millennial anniversary of Hungary's Magyar Conquest. Visiting this square is a great way to witness Hungary's history up close and personal. It is truly a majestic and impressive structure to behold, and a must-see for any visitors new to Budapest.
-
Step 2
Check out Gellert Hill and Statue (Gellert Hegy). Gellert Hill is the best place in Budapest to get an amazing bird's eye view of the city. Not only can visitors get a breathtaking panoramic view of Budapest, but of the famed Danube River as well. The Citadella Fortress is also located on Gellert Hill, so be sure to check that out as well.
-
Step 3
Visit Buda Castle at the Royal Place (Kiralyi Palota). The original version of the Royal Place was destroyed by fire back in World World II, so what is here now is a modernized version with brand new interiors. However, the palace is full of hidden walls and medieval elements that make the castle a must-see for tourists.
-
Step 4
Stroll through Budapest Statue Park (Szobor Park). Budapest Statues Park has a collection of statues from the Communism era, so what you see here can be intriguing, interesting, and even haunting at times. This park is actually more of a museum than an actual park, and offers many exhibitions as well regarding Communist rule (one example is the "Stalin's Boots" exhibit).

Step 5
Visit the Great Synagogue (Nagy Zsinagoga). The Great Synagogue (also known as the Central Synagogue) is the second largest synagogue on the entire planet. It is located in the heart of what is considered to be "Jewish Budapest." With a room that can hold upwards of three-thousand people, this is truly an impress place to visit.
