A surgical technician's main job is to assist the head surgeon in the operating room during a surgery. This entails prepping the operating room, sterilizing the room and equipment for surgery, transporting patients, handing instruments to the surgeon during surgery, retracting tissue and suturing incisions. The job outlook for this profession is steadily increasing with more demand for surgical techs and higher pay. To become a surgical technician, you need to complete a two-year accredited degree program and pass a certification exam. In Indiana, the process in becoming a surgical technician is similar to anywhere in the United States, but choosing the right school might be different.

Take note of the times classes are offered and what types of instructional methods are used such as online, in person or a combination of both. Also find out how much tuition is. Tuition is a big factor in determining the best school for you.

3. Determine what type of schedule would best fit your life. If you have a full-time job already, taking online classes would probably suit you best. You need to decide how many classes you will be able to take a semester and what times you will be able to attend those classes.

4. Ask yourself how far you are willing to drive to get to school. You usually have to take a certain amount of classes in person to graduate with a surgical technician degree in Indiana. To make this easier on yourself, you should choose a school that is somewhat close to your home.
