How to Rid a Yard of Moles

Moles can really wreak havoc on your yard. These pests burrow in the ground, creating tunnels and molehills. Although they do not eat vegetables, they can ruin your garden by destroying the roots of your plants. Get rid of these pests once and for all by following these steps.

Things You'll Need

• Grub killer
• Human urine
• Castor oil
• Garden fence
• Used cat litter

Instructions

1. Get rid of their food source, grubs. With no source of food, the moles will have to look for food elsewhere. To get rid of the grubs go to your local hardware store and get some grub killer. Another way to help eliminate grubs is to water your lawn less often or early in the morning. Grubs come out at night and they like moist soil. If you water your lawn early in the day so the lawn will dry before nightfall.

2. Build a fence around the garden. If moles are ruining your garden, build a fence around it. Use aluminum sheeting or a wire fence so the moles can get through. Make sure your fence is two feet deep in the ground and about one foot high.

3. Spray your lawn with castor oil. The castor oil will soak into the soil and when the moles eat the grubs in that soil it will make them sick and not want to eat in that area again.

4. Pour human urine around molehills and tunnels. Moles hate the smell of humans. You can also sprinkle strands of human hair around the area.

5. Pour used cat litter inside the mole tunnels. Another odor that moles detest is ammonia and the cat litter has a strong ammonia smell in it from the urine that is soaked in.

• If you are still have trouble getting rid of the moles, you can call an exterminator.

• If you have pets, be careful if using poison to kill the moles. Your pet could get sick or possibly die if they eat grass treated with poison or if they happen to find the poisoned mole and eat it.
