      Look at the display and choose an avocado that is deep green to black.

      Pick up the avocado and squeeze lightly. If it is tender to the touch, it is ripe.

      Inspect the avocado for mushy spots and uneven color. if it is free of those, buy it.

      If there are no ripe avocados, you can buy one that is not quite ripe and place it in a paper bag for a few days. This will help it ripen.
