How to Dress in Rattlesnake Country
Rattlesnakes are located in desert regions. These can include but are not limited to Oregon, California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. When you are hiking out in the beautiful countryside or right in your own backyard, you must be careful of where you step. A rattlesnake bite can be rather painful and could lead to death if not treated. Rattlesnakes are not aggressive creatures; they try to stay away from humans. Unfortunately, sometimes rattlesnakes and humans run across each other. Dressing appropriately in rattlesnake country is important when walking around in their territory.

1
Purchase the correct type of boots. Any sportsmen or department stores in your local area or an online retail store will have these available for purchase. The boots need to be at least ankle high. Higher boots that go to the middle of your calf are ideal, such as cowboy boots. The footwear should be made of thick material, such as leather or hide. If you are walking through thick desert brush, boots that reach your calf may give you more protection than ankle-high footwear.

2
Buy sturdy pants. You will need to wear a thick material such as denim. Never wear shorts or a dress while walking through rattlesnake country. When these creatures strike, they can reach as high as your thigh. Before walking into the rattlesnake territory, tuck your pant legs into your boots. This will give you added protection in case the strike penetrates your boots.

Buying chaps are optional. If you are wearing calf high boots and tuck in your pant legs, chaps are not necessary. However, if you are wearing ankle footwear and do not want your pants tucked in, chaps are an alternative. They wrap around your calf area and are made of thick leather. A rattlesnake will not be able to penetrate this.

Pick up some leather work gloves. If you are working in a brush area or hiking through trails, gloves will protect you from rattlesnake bites. The material is thick and fangs cannot penetrate it.

Tips & Warnings
Clothing that is worn on your torso does not matter much. Rattlesnakes will only penetrate body parts that are close to the ground.
Remember to keep your feet and legs well protected while walking around rattlesnake country. Your hands only need covering if you are working close to the ground.
