How to Get Free Stuff When Staying at a Hotel

Do you travel frequently? Chances are, you're missing out on all of the free items and services hotels offer. They don't advertise that they will give you free shampoo or a shower cap, because it costs them money. If you have strong communication skills and are not afraid to speak up, you may walk away from your vacation or business trip with more stuff than you bargained for.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask the maid for extra items. Housekeeping usually has a cart on each floor, or a storage room filled with shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, mouthwash and lots of other great stuff. When you arrive at your room, call the front desk and give them a list of items you request.

  2. Step 2

Make sure your heat and air unit is satisfactory. Often, the unit is not working, and if you request a new room, the hotel may provide an upgrade provided you're assertive enough. If you don't get an upgrade, you may request a voucher for breakfast or lunch for your inconvenience.

  3. Step 3

Talk with the hotel travel expert. She knows the city you're visiting inside and out, and can make recommendations for your trip. She may even have free show tickets, or complimentary dinner for you and your family if you attend a short time-share tour.

  4. Step 4

Fill out the comment card after your visit. If your stay was completely unsatisfactory, demand to talk to a manager. He may comp your visit or give you a voucher for a future visit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be assertive! Most businesses want their customers to be happy. If you complain enough, you're bound to get something out of it.
