How to Detail a Black Car
-
1
Wash the car to remove dust and debris using soap and water. Allow the car to dry before detailing. Make a note of any small or large scratches and nicks you want to remove so you will remember to reach all of them. Use a wax remover on damaged areas once the car has dried.
-
2
Use a sandpaper stick to remove debris inside scratches. Apply a small amount of automotive paint to the damaged area. Depending on the size of the scratch, you may want to use cotton swabs to ensure an even coat is applied. A small paintbrush may also be used. Apply up to three coats. Allow paint to dry overnight.

3
Begin sanding the newly painted areas using wet/dry #1000 grit sandpaper. Move back and forth over the area to even out the new layers of paint that have been applied to the surface. Move to #2000 grit for a smoother finish. Use #3000 grit if the paint is still uneven. The goal is to create a surface that is flat and dull.
-
4
Apply automotive polish and work it into the area using a dry cloth. Remove any excess polish before applying a coat of wax.
-
5
Apply automotive wax on the detailed areas. This will help detailed areas blend into the paint color evenly.
