You can use children’s book clubs to build a home library for your kids. These organizations offer a selection of high-quality books for specific age groups and their summaries remove the guesswork from choosing titles. You also get free books and other gifts as incentives for joining a club. There are many different types of clubs available. You just need to find the right one.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Determine what type of book club you want to join. They range from Children’s Book of the Month Club to the Dr. Seuss Club.

  2. Step 2

Research the book clubs. Compare prices, purchase commitment and book selection. Check out the Book Club Offer Website (see Resources below) for a comparison. This site also offers reviews of each club. Be sure to look at promotions.

  3. Step 3

Most clubs have online membership applications. If you want to join by mail, you can request a catalog from the website. Use a credit card to pay for shipping and handling. Note that some book selections count as two credits.

  4. Step 4

Most book clubs offer a monthly selection. You are typically notified by either mail or email of the monthly selection. If you do not decline the selection, the book is automatically sent to you and you are billed for the book. Respond promptly if you do not want the book. Some book clubs allow you to return the book if you decide you do not want to purchase it

  5. Step 5

Purchase the required number of books to fulfill your contract. You typically have a set amount of time to purchase the required books. If you do not purchase the books, you are automatically billed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you can cancel if you fulfill your purchase obligation early. Also, find out how to cancel your membership.
  • Some clubs allow you to purchase books at a reduced price when you join the club. These books often count against your required purchased.
